Yowch…

Looks like a LOT of strife has been stirring up while I was gone… I suppose that’s a good thing. I think the American church needs a LOT of stirring up and strife and persecution at this point. But anyways. It’s totally nice to be on the computer again after a week. And it makes me feel good to know I was missed, even if for the sake of an argument, but you all know how argumentative I can be (and contraversial).

So… I’m not exactly sure what the problem is. That there’s any problem with listening to Skillet? Here’s a post on the same forum that I made immediately after making the one I posted last week. Think about this one for a little.

There are a couple of points I would like to make. Personally, I want to live every single second of my life thinking about God, furthering his kingdom, honoring him, etc. etc. The goal of my life is to make that my life. I think that that is what I should do as a Christian. Maybe not. But I think that when I (and again this is me, not other people) listen to rock or most other contemporary forms of music, they don’t further me in any of the three respects I mentioned.

And here is another point. I would really like people’s grace in this matter. To me, it seems that most contemporary music is bad, and it doesn’t give God glory when I listen to it, or I don’t accomplish anything for him. Obviously, I could be totally wrong.

BUT.

and I say again, BUT.

I would really appreciate grace, for I may be the weaker brother in this case, so don’t lead me astray. Paul talks a lot about the liberty that we have in Christ in Romans chapter 14.

Romans 14:19-
So then let us pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are clean,(including music) but they are evil for the man who eats and gives offense.

It is good NOT to eat meat or to drink wine, or to do anything by which your brother stumbles.

The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.

So, give me a little slack, cause I’m the weaker brother here.

Just curious, but what music does give God glory when you listen to it? The intent of the artists when singing/composing/writing these songs was almost certainly to worship/praise/give glory to God…so their intent is right. But yes, if your conscience is telling you that something is wrong, then don’t do it, it will only make things worse.

would you mind posting about what happened on September 22nd. You’ve referenced to that date, as the day you actually became a christian, or were ‘enlightened’. If you don’t mind – i’d be interested in what ‘made you change.’ :)
