Traveling Preachers

by Santeyio on July 30, 2010

I’m tired at the moment. I’m sitting at the computer, looking at a full day of work, then rushing home to be on time for my own graduation party. I’m uploading the tracks for my CD onto the site of the company that’s going to print my CD’s. I have to say, I’m pretty proud of my work. This is something I really feel good about, this album. I feel like it’s a professional sounding piece of recording and mixing. Sure it’s not perfect, but what album is? I really hope that God can use it to touch people…

I was thinking the other day how musicians are like the traveling preachers of our day. I mean we all know that it’s not like it used to be, where you could travel from town to town and show up at the town center one day, have people gather around, and then have an audience you could just talk at. People’s lives are so fragmented and busy there’s no way they’re going to make that sort of time sacrifice. The only people who have a huge audience who they can preach to almost every day through any city in the US are musicians. I mean think about it. You’re getting up on a stage and talking to people for an hour, two hours. With the powerful catalyst of music behind your words, no less. What a huge responsibility that is. Think of all the people who abuse that power, or don’t realize they have that power and live a messed up life. I don’t know, it was an interesting thought to me.

I’ve so busy lately I haven’t had time to look ahead even a day. It’s hard enough to get through each day as it is… each day really does have enough trouble and worry for itself. I feel like every day I gain more perspective, every day I’m humbled more, every day brings me a step closer to being a child. Perhaps it’s a step backwards, but sometimes I’m amazed at people’s presumptuous arrogance. It really just puzzles me sometimes. Anyways, I should be off to work. Go live with a childlike faith my friend.

I didn’t comment on this, but I really liked this thought. That thought never crossed my mind before.
