Live Like a Child

by Santeyio on July 19, 2011

Live like a child, my son, free from care and worry;
To a child life is but a pageant: a wondrous play.
Hold never a grudge in thy heart, neither malice in thy mind,
But live and lavish the love that has been loosed upon thee.
Work will all thy might at the tasks before thee,
And take never thy eyes from the cross.
Put others always before thyself,
And keep thy hands clean and thy heart pure.
Live, my son, as a child…
And never take yourself too seriously.

The line “never take yourself too seriously” is dangerous. When you suggest that there are two extremes one can be in, people then take liberty to define and declare what they think those two extremes are. Suddenly, they found the mean in between them that is wildly off from considering it’s wisdom. So, specificity should be employed to find the moderation and then the two extremes from there.

Oh pish Gunn.

Thanks Darian :)

Alright, Caleb. How about you justify your “pish”. When people do that, I translate it as a disguised fetal position when you are losing an argument. Gay.

For a second I thought I was reading a proverb, Caleb, and I’m inclined to continue thinking of it in that way. It has proverbial bones
‘and never take yourself to seriously’ I connect it and understand it with ‘live, as a child; with wonder, a teachable heart where arrogance hasn’t root.
Best to you,
Karen

Gunn, you take yourself and your reasoning too seriously.

Thanks Karen. :) Yeah, the theme I was trying to convey was living with the attitude of a child. So I began with that and repeated the thought at the end to wrap it up. Every line is supposed to contain a thought that kind of contributes towards the picture of the attitude of a child. “Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.”

I am hurt, but you are still gay.

Let me paint a picture for you. Caleb writes, “Gunn, you take yourself and your reasoning too seriously.” Upon reading this comment Gunn puts on a false air of superiority so that Caleb’s friends will think he is totally manly. Though, quickly he breaks down weeping into hiccuping sobs, and clasps his pudgy hands together to bring forth his plea to his enemy saying, “Caleb, I hate you, I hate you . . . . . and yet . . . . . . I hate you! Why must you torment me so!” Gunn stamps his foot and pouts for the rest of his life to his grave. But at once, when on his death bed, Gunn has this to say with his fist in the air crying, “Liberty, Freedom and Caleb is still gay!”

How could I take myself so seriously when I use the word “gay”. Everyone knows that it is intolerant and not up to date.
