Green Tea VS Coffee

This, my friends, can be quite a controversial topic. Let me tell you… I've seen some heated arguments (and maybe taken part in a few). Before I go further, I think it only fair to say I am a pro-healther. Not a coffee maniac. I am rather confused as to why anyone would want to drink coffee. Alright, I suppose that it tastes really good to most people. But, it's an aquired taste. I mean, you didn't like coffee when you were five right? Well, some really weird people might have, but 97.9% of people age 5 and under don't like coffee. Another thing I would like to point out is, coffee has no health benefits. I'm not quite sure if it's detrimental but… It's certainly not good for one. Addictiveness. You can get extremely addicted to the caffine and the, well, coffee. Usually, I would say that anything that has a high addiction rate can't be that good for you. Take smoking for example (you might have noticed that I love that metaphor of addictiveness, and repeatedly use it in arguments).

Now, on the other side of the spectrum is green tea. Ahhhhhhh. Just thinking about it makes me want to drink the fresh, leafy goodness… as a matter of fact, I'm going to go make myself a cup. *goes off to make a cup of tea* *comes back with a steaming cup of green goodness* Ok, I can now better inform you of the qualaties of green tea. *blows steam off top and takes a delicate sip* Well, there are many health benefits of drinking alot of green tea (it can help cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol levels, cariovascular disease, infection, impaired immune function, and even tooth decay). It has also been used as a medecine for 4000 years in China (everything from headaches to depression). The only negative aspect is it's caffine content, but even this is minimal, and there is less than in coffee.

Now why, I ask you, would you choose coffee as oppose to green tea?

Okay. Fine. You still aren't convinced? Go this site about the health benefits of green tea…

www.greenteaearth.com

If that doesn't convince you, I really don't know what will.

*UPDATE*

Ah, an interesting point. Maybe people drink coffee BECAUSE of the very fact it has a high-caffeine content. Well then, I have an easy solution. Just go to your local drugstore, buy a bottle of caffeine pills, and add a pill to each cup of green tea you have. That should solve the problem of caffeine content.

You say:
"The only negative aspect is it's caffeine content,
but even this is minimal, and there is less than in
coffee."

But the reason most people acquire the taste for coffee, is *because* of the caffeine. They drink coffee to keep awake at their boring job, or on the drive home. At first they drink it to keep awake, but gradually come to enjoy the flavor.

And that, is why people drink coffee.

"coffee has no health benefits"- FALSE. I also consider my self a pro-healther and the best way to excel at that is not being ignorant. Several major studies including those conducted at Harvard Medical School have proven coffee's ability to prevent adult onset diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and colon cancer to name a few. Also coffee contains four times the amount of antioxidants than either green or black tea.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a tea drinker myself, but spreading misinformation won't result in the longevity we desire.

Ha ha ha… let me get this straight, you're trying to tout green tea and your only evidence is basically a shill site FOR green tea? Way to cite evidence. Sorry to be a buzzkill on your one-sided argument you've made (at five, tea tasted more nasty than coffee) but google "tea vs coffee" or any other and you'll find coffee > tea many fold, many many fold.

Across the web very large universities have done multi-year studies of over 100,000 people. Coffee unequivocally has been proven healthy in moderation to lower risks of: Diabetes, Parkinsons, Alzheimers, gallstones, colon cancer, cavities (odd but true), cirrhosis of the liver, is loaded with antioxidants, and on and on and on. Tea, some health benefits, but not-so much. It also won't wake you up like a good ol' cup of joe!

But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your argument.
