Noble Twilight

Back in spring-ish 2007, I somehow began writing and recording music. It started out with just one song… Dark Illusions… and really I was just kind of playing around. I was like 'hey, this sounds kind of cool… maybe I can write some lyrics for it…' and so I popped onto garageband and recorded a bit of stuff with just the built in macbook mic. That's how all of my stuff is recorded from my first album 'A Darkening World'. Actually it was never really meant to be an album… I just kind of wrote songs and then after a while I was like 'hey, I'll throw them together and make them an album!' and so I did. Then I decided that I wanted to write an actual album. So I got myself my SM58, a little USB mixer, and hacked out 'Requiem to Night'. (The singing on both of these, by the way, is pretty much terrible, as it is on Graveyard of Dreams, though it isn't quite as bad there). I think after I finished that album, I gave up writing and recording music for a while… for various odd reasons. I might have blog posted about that at one point, I don't recall.

But at any rate in Fall 2008 for some odd reason I started recording again. It started out as just one song… 'Graveyard of Dreams'. But I wrote another. And another. I think I wrote something like 4. But then I recorded 'Ashes and Dust' by which time my singing has drastically improved from my first recording attempts in 'Dark Illusions'. I decided that Ashes and Dust was a good place to begin a new album with a consistent sound, because the other four songs I previously had written through the fall and winter were jarringly unconnected and different in sound. So I threw together the four odd songs into another album (which is really too short to be a real ablum, but I can make my own rules with my music here) and called it 'Graveyard of Dreams'.

At any rate, that's the story of Noble Twilight (Oh… I guess I never mentioned the fact that I decided to call my artist/band name 'Noble Twilight'). Noble Twilight ends with 'Stay'. But Whispered Prayers beings with Ashes and Dust. If you want to here some of my continuing musical effort, you can check out the link to my Whispered Prayer's stuff up at the top.

I've taught myself several instruments… I'm most at home on the piano, and that's what most of my compositions are. Occasionally there'll be a guitar song, or there'll be strings, guitar, synth, bass, drums in the background of a song, if I get extra creative.

In terms of recording, I have a simple little UA-4FX mixer that I plug into my dad's macbook pro and record into garageband with an SM-58 or with my electric guitar or keyboard. Pretty simple stuff.

My music has gotten progressively better, though that isn't saying much. It's gone from horrible (first album 'A Darkening World') to bad (second album 'Requiem to Night') to barely tolerable (third album 'Graveyard of Dreams'). As I write this, I only have two songs on my latest work, that is Graveyard of Dreams. I must warn you, the singing is pretty bad, though I have been impressed how much it has improved with time (not to say I'm like a great singer now or anything…).

I'd like to put up a few cover songs, and maybe do a little fife music recording. I haven't put up a page for that yet, but when I do I'll slap it on here. If anything ever happens, which it may or may not.
